Rear Adm. Mazur Visits NWDC to Discuss Modeling, Simulation and 2nd Fleet Wargaming
04 March 2026
Norfolk, Va. --
Rear Adm. David E. Mazur, of the Royal Canadian Navy and vice Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet, visited Navy Warfare Development Center (NWDC) March 4, 2026, to observe ongoing initiatives supporting fleet experimentation, modeling and simulation, and operational wargaming.
Mazur was welcomed by Capt. Samantha Dutily, NWDC chief of staff, and Capt. Michael Witt, NWDC N7 Training, Exercises, and Wargaming department head. During the visit, the N7 team discussed NWDC’s role in advancing naval warfighting concepts and supporting fleet commanders through experimentation, analysis and concept development.
As part of the visit, Mazur toured the Navy Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation (NCAMS), where Stephanie Lewis, director of NWDC’s Fleet Synthetic Training, demonstrated how modeling and simulation capabilities allow planners and operators to test tactics, evaluate emerging technologies and analyze complex operational scenarios in a virtual environment before applying them in fleet exercises.
Following the tour, NWDC personnel briefed Mazur on the upcoming 2nd Fleet 360 Wargame, which will bring together operators, planners and analysts to examine challenging maritime scenarios and refine tactics supporting the mission of U.S. 2nd Fleet.
NWDC develops and integrates innovative warfighting concepts, conducts experimentation and wargaming, and supports fleet training to ensure the Navy remains ready to meet current and future operational challenges.
