CAPTAIN DAVID AAMODT     

CAPT David AamodtCapt. David Aamodt is a native of Seattle, Washington and was commissioned via the United States Academy in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Systems Engineering. Following his 1998 completion of Naval Flight Officer training at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Florida, he reported to the Grim Reapers of VF-101 at NAS Oceana, Virginia, for fleet replacement training in the venerable F-14 Tomcat. Designated a radar intercept officer in 1999, he remained at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach for his initial fleet tour in the Pukin' Dogs of VF-143 where he deployed in support of Operations Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom.

In 2002, Capt. Aamodt transitioned to the F/A-18F Super Hornet and began an instructor tour as a weapons system officer with the VFA-122 Flying Eagles at NAS Lemoore, California. During this tour, he also earned an executive Masters of Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School. He remained at NAS Lemoore to serve as strike operations officer in Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 from 2005-2007 where he again deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Capt. Aamodt also served his department head tour at NAS Lemoore in the Bounty Hunters of VFA-2. During this tour he deployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. In 2009, he began a tour at the Gladiators of VFA-106 where he served as the training officer for the East Coast F/A-18 fleet training squadron.

Capt. Aamodt began his command tour at the Checkmates of VFA-211 in 2012. On this tour he again deployed in support of Enduring Freedom. During this tour, the Checkmates were honored to be selected for the Secretary of Defense Phoenix Award, presented to a single unit of any size, type, or service which was evaluated as having the most noteworthy maintenance effort within the entire Department of Defense. Following completion of his command tour in 2014, he served as the O-5 TACAIR detailer and head Aviation detailer at the Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee.

From 2016-2020, he served in the Joint Staff J7 exercise division from Suffolk, Virginia, primarily as the global integration desk officer.

Capt. Aamodt's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Strike-Flight Air Medal, and Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal in addition to numerous campaign and unit awards.
