The MAKO series provides Reserve Sailors with invaluable hands-on experience in a Maritime Operations Center (MOC) environment, simulating operational-level warfare (OLW) scenarios. Specialized training ensures Sailors are better equipped to integrate into high-stakes operations, directly enhancing Navy readiness.

Through realistic, scenario-driven training, MAKO prepares Reserve Sailors for their critical roles in overseeing forces at the OLW. MOC operations and other OLW functions are top priorities for Navy leadership, ensuring Sailors are ready to contribute effectively when called upon.

Throughout the four-day event, Sailors enhance their warfighting readiness through hands-on training, including MOC watch standing, briefing commanders, and forming operational and cross-functional planning teams. These teams play a critical role in supporting the Fleet Commander's Decision Cycle.

Senior leaders attended the exercise, visiting the watch floor and engaging with Sailors and mentors to gain deeper insight into the ongoing training. This direct interaction underscored the integration of active-duty and Reserve components, emphasizing the value of collaboration in strengthening operational readiness.

Rear Adm. Kenneth Blackmon, Vice Commander, USFF, emphasized the importance of the MAKO Challenge, describing it as a crucial opportunity for Reserve Component Sailors to "fight from the MOC." He noted that these Sailors gain essential training and experience, preparing them to contribute effectively in real-world operations from day one.

Given the limited time and high operational demands, the Navy Reserve prioritizes training exercises like MAKO to bolster warfighting readiness. This is particularly important given the evolving and complex geopolitical landscape. MAKO provides the most realistic training possible, ensuring Sailors are ready to step into critical MOC roles.
